Public Art Mentorship
I create sculptures and public artworks that consider the choices we make as we navigate the complexities of the non-human world. I’ve had the pleasure of working with clients and project partners including the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Pittsburgh International Airport, Pittsburgh's Office for Public Art, the NYC Department of Transportation Urban Art Program, and Philadelphia's Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy.
I have extensive experience working on a variety of project types including solo commissions, serving on design teams with other design professionals, and transit related projects involving multiple government agencies. I've worn many hats in the process, as an artist/designer, administrator, collaborator, facilitator, and educator at Carnegie Mellon University, The Andy Warhol Museum, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Point Park University. I'm friendly, easy to talk to, honest (no BS!), and I'd love to use my years of experience to help you move your public art practice forward.
Do you need advice in making a shift from an exhibition-based practice to commissioned works in public?
Are you tackling your first public commission and want a mentor to work with you through the process?
Could you use a sounding board to talk through a specific issue on a project?
I work one-on-one with artists engaged in public art, or who are looking to transition their practice to include public art. These online sessions are a great opportunity to address challenges, get feedback or ask questions about the process of creating artwork for the public realm. There is no set curriculum – the direction and duration of the mentorship is tailored to fit your needs. We can work together on things like choosing appropriate materials, scaling your work to public or architectural scale, developing ideas for a specific site or community, considering public engagement strategies, identifying fabricators, understanding the commissioning process, and industry best practices.
You can schedule a single, focused meeting, or a series of three or six for a deeper dive. Meetings are one hour, and take place via Zoom or Google Meet. Contact me using the form below for current pricing and to let me know what you'd like to work on.
