Divide Series

Divide is a series of sculptures that humorously ponders the tension in our various interactions with the natural landscape. They incorporate cast fragments of landscaping boulders propped up on and suspended by delicate, wooden, scaffold-like forms. The engineered, logical forms intersect with the seemingly chaotic structures of the rocks, which are revealed to be thin facades. The facades touch upon the fact that one of the main ways that we interact with the landscape is by looking, which only reveals partial truths. Organization is balanced with chaos and the appearance of weight with lightness.

Details: Dimensions vary from 21” x 21” x21” to 100” x 58” x 28”. Plaster, papier-mâché, wood, tape, hardware, graphite, acrylic paint. 2019
