Garden

Existing grass and plants, landscape edging, 2008.

Approx. 35’ x 35’.

Garden is based on a piece from my series "Plans for Landscapes", in which the designs found in Styrofoam packaging are used as the basis for landscape designs. The design used for this piece is called "Garden" and is derived from the packaging for a ceiling fan. This design was laid out in landscape edging on the lawn of Mellon Park adjacent to the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts for the Pittsburgh Biennial. During the four-month run of the exhibition, portions of the design were kept neatly mowed to match the surrounding grass, while other areas were allowed to grow wild, revealing the diversity and the life stages of the existing plants.

Commissioned by the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts & Media for the Pittsburgh Biennial.
